All Disciples of Christ ministers with standing in the Northeastern Region are required to take Boundary Training on a periodic basis. Many institutions now use the continuing education model for their training requirements. The Northeastern Region will transition to this model and Boundary Training will become a yearly requirement starting next year (2021).
Easy registration.
• Register and pay online at the Region’s website https://www.northeasternccdoc.com/Easy availability.
• Boundary training will be offered by the Region with multiple dates and weekday and Saturday training dates available.Easy access.
• Training will be by Zoom so no travel will be required. Easy record keeping.
• Registration will be tracked by the Regional Office and reported to your Commission on Ministry upon course completion.
• You will receive a letter each year showing that you have completed the training.
• At the end of 3 years you will have completed the required 9 hours of training for one training module and will receive a certificate from the Regional Minister’s Office
REGISTRATION;
You will need to select a date and register for the session most convenient for you. The cost of the session is $20.00. Retired ministers and ministers serving a congregation that contributes to DMF (Disciples Mission Fund) will receive a 50% credit for a cost of $10.00
A maximum of 15 participants will be registered for the training, so please submit your registration online ( or send your registration to Jennifer Allen, jrheaallen@yahoo.com ) as soon as possible, but no later than February 1st. The training schedule is shown at the end of this letter. It is also available on the Region’s website.
TRAINING CONTENT
Topics will change each year. Some of the topics to be covered over the three year period are:
• An overview of boundaries: what they are, why we need them, what scripture tells us
• Sexual misconduct – abuse, harassment, touch
• Power and Authority
• Financial Issues
• Dual Relationships: friendships, dating
• Leaving the congregation – retirement, new position, beingasked to leave
• Social Media
• Pastoral Relations Committees
• Self-care
REQUIREMENTS FOR PARTICIPANTS
On the date of your training, each participant needs to:
1) Sign in on time and remain in the training for the full 3 hour session .
2) Have reliable access to WiFi,
3) Have a laptop or iPad with an embedded camera or a desktop computer with a webcam so that you can see and be seen during the entire training session. A voice only access will not meet the requirement for training.
o Using just your smart phone will make it difficult to see each other and to read the slides presented throughout the workshop. We recommend one of the devices listed above.This will be a new experience for all of us. Your trainer, Penny Cannon (585-781-8246), will do her best to help everyone learn and enjoy this online experience.
